But I guess he’s my new cat now... He’s maybe 5 or 6 months old, he has only one eye (born like that), he has cats’ AIDS (no symptoms, just has it) and herpes lol. Good thing the place I live in is fairly big because he can’t be in contact with my other cat due to the herpes. Have to wash my hands all the time and be careful with my clothes to when I hold him.
Oh yeah, he has a cold too :)
His name is Willy btw. So welcome Willy! Shitty cats rescuing ftw lol

Haha, cats herpes is not sexually transmitted. It’s just a reference to Willy from the Goonies due to the fact that he has only one eye.

Awesome! I miss having a cat. I had one for 17 years, had to put her down earlier this year. I still has a sad.

Thanks, he is been getting better in the past couple hours and managed to eat a lot. His chances of survival are now fairly high.

Poor sick kitteh!
So, in cats, upper respiratory infections are actually caused by the herpes/calici virus. Stress is a huge factor in their health - just like humans will get cold sores when stressed, cats will break out in mouth and eye sores, which can easily blossom into a URI. Oddly enough, the square footage of personal space available to each cat is a strong influencer on their stress level, so it’s great that you have a large space (each cat needs a minimum of 18 square feet).
When my most recent cat came in to our lives, he had a terrible URI from being in the shelter and actually got pneumonia, the poor guy. Getting out of the shelter and in to an 800 square foot apartment, ten days or so of liquid antibiotics (raspberry flavored!) on canned food, and supplemental lysine in the form of these delicious treats fixed him right up.
Good luck new kitteh!

Yes, he has a great combo: Herpes, cats AIDS and a rear paw that hurts, cut somewhere, along while being sooooo damn thin that it’s almost scary. Combine that with the missing eye and you have a nice combo of a pretty fucked up cat haha :)
Right now he is alone in a room in the 3rd floor. He cannot get in contact with my other cat due to the herpes. But the room is around 180 sq/ft and he has access to a 250sq/ft balcony just for him if he wants to go out, so he is good... Only thing that worries me is that it’s on the 3rd floor and being very young, he might fall fairly easily. Our current cat, who is probably around 11 year old fell 3 times from that balcony when he was a kitty. He was in much better physical shape though :)
I hope he’ll be fine in a week or so...

Oh yes, when I mean he’s a fucked up cat, he really is a fucked up cat :)
He also is a carrier of cats’ AIDS (still rarely sexually transmitted between cars, more through bites and fights) and that will be the next thing to fight once his eye is shut for good to avoid infections. When I say fucked cat, I mean fucked up lol :)

Calicivirus is included in the annual feline distemper vaccine, but it’s not 100% effective. If you plan to introduce them later, it’s a good idea to give them *both* lysine during the transition period.
One easy way to increase their square footage is by installing horizontal surfaces like shelves and platforms (which also makes their environment more fun). You don’t have to get all Jackson Galaxy with it or anything.
